About the City
Metz is a city in the northeast of France, capital of the Lorraine region and prefecture of the department of Moselle. It is located at the confluence of the Moselle and the Seille rivers.
City Areas
Although the city is relatively small, it offers a lot of areas to explore. Starting in the city center, you can take a walk in the parks or by the Place Saint-Louis, and finish in the Quartier de la Gare admiring the German architecture clashing with the feel and design of the French city.

Metz offers some of the most unique attractions in Europe. Some of these attractions include the city’s medieval gates, an ancient church and a museum spanning over sixty rooms.
Transportation
There are a lot of ways to get to Metz. The most popular is by TGV which is very fast, but some prefer traveling by either plane or own means of transportation.

Beside the numerous exhibitions every year, Metz is also the scene of two wonderful festivities. The Mirabelle Festival and the Christmas Market give the city a holiday spirit unseen anywhere else in the world.

History and Civilization
The history of Metz starts in Roman times when it was known as Divodurum. The city gets its current name from the Celtic tribe that once lived on this land, called Mettis.
Metz up up and away
Held once every 2 years on the famous Chambley airfield, The Metz Air Baloon Festival has quickly grown to be the biggest event of its kind in Europe. With over 900 baloons stretched out over 480 hectaires, this event offers a delightful spectacle to professional balloon riders and fans alike.
